Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on June 8, 2012 – 3:17 pm -

trade show booth display15-year-old April Spielman wanted her boyfriend’s first trip to Walt Disney World to be memorable, so she planned to do something special — dress up like Tinker Bell.

April spent months planning her costume and said that she woke up at 4 a.m the morning of her visit, just to paint her nails green, get her hair ready and do her make-up.

The first half of the day went smoothly but, when she tried to gain entry into The Animal Kingdom, she was refused admission and told to get changed into clothes that Disney World gave her because officials said she looked too much like their Tinkerbell.

“They said I looked too good,” Spielman said.  Read more……..

The Muppets Attack Fox News #trade-show-booth-of-life

Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on January 31, 2012 – 4:15 pm -

The Muppets came out swinging with a long-awaited response to Fox Business News’ accusation that their new film is anti-oil, anti-corporate propaganda meant to influence children.

The film’s director, James Bobin, told The Hollywood Reporter, “The character of Tex Richman is not an allegory for capitalism in any way.”

Kermit the Frog said, ” It’s a funny thing, they were concerned about us having some prejudice against oil companies, and I can tell you, that’s categorically not true”

Miss Piggy was more combative and political, adding that the charge was “almost as laughable as accusing Fox News of being news.”

Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on January 24, 2012 – 5:27 pm -

The first thing on Costa Concordia survivors’ minds probably isn’t another cruise. But if passengers are looking to set sail again, they’ll get a discount.

According to a Costa Cruise spokesperson, “The company is not only going to refund everybody but they will offer a 30% discount on future cruises if they want to stay loyal to the company.”

Costa Concordia passengers are already filing class-action lawsuits, which could presumably net the thousands of survivors a bit more than the discount. One filing is asking for $160,000 per passenger.   Read more……

Watch out for icebergs… cruise recreating Titanic’s fateful voyage is sold out

Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on January 12, 2012 – 4:33 pm -

A British company has almost sold out two cruises which will follow the route of the Titanic to where it struck an iceberg 100 years ago.   Tickets go for as much as $10,000.

Some of those who have booked the cruise are having costumes made to recreate the appearance of the original passengers and a string quartet will play the same music that was playing when the ship began to sink.  Passengers on the 2012 cruise will dine on the same menus offered to the 1,514 people who died and the 710 who survived when the ship went down in the North Atlantic.  Among the items from the 11-course first-class dinner to be offered will be oysters, roast squab and sautéed chicken Lyonnaise.

If you missed that opportunity, you can explore the wreckage of the ill-fated vessel in a Russian-built submarine for $59,000.

Big Brother is watching you shop

Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on January 9, 2012 – 8:34 pm -

On the Web, every click and jiggle of the mouse helps online retailers customize sites and maximize the likelihood of a purchase. Brick-and-mortar stores have long wanted to track consumers in a similar fashion, but following atoms is a lot harder than following bits.

To get a better understanding of their customers, mall operators are monitoring shoppers’ behavior with devices that track mobile-phone signals and in-store security cameras.  The goal is to discover which variables affect a purchase, then act with Web-like nimbleness to deploy more salespeople, alter displays, or put out blue blouses instead of red.
