Quidditch anyone? #tradeshow-booth-of-life
Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on February 6, 2012 – 4:27 pm -Next weekend, more than 60 different teams from high schools and universities across the country are expected to gather at De Witt Clinton Park in New York City for the fourth annual Quidditch World Cup.
Harvard University, M.I.T, Yale, Penn State, Duke — several prestigious universities are registered for the World Cup. Not bad for a game that just a few years ago existed only in the pages of the Harry Potter series.
As a real-life physical game, quidditch has been around since 2005, when Middlebury College students started playing the game. In 2007, Middlebury College played the first intercollegiate quidditch match, against Vassar College. The match received national coverage in several media outlets and the number of teams competing at the Quidditch World Cup grows every fall.

Why Are People Breading Cats? #tradeshow-booth-of-life
Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on February 3, 2012 – 4:08 pm -Cat breading requires a lot of patience and work — you must take a piece of bread, cut out most of its center and then place your cat’s head through it. Then, you have to take a photo before your cat goes nuts, and revel in your delight while simultaneously pushing insecurities about being a complete freak out of your head.
A Facebook page called “Putting bread on your cat, so that people think you have a walking sandwich” has more than 9,200 fans.

Almost everyone in the village won the $950 million lottery #tradeshow-booth-of-Life
Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on February 1, 2012 – 4:38 pm -All but one household in the tiny village of Sodeto, Spain held at least a piece of a winning ticket in the annual Christmas lottery’s huge first prize, $950 million, the biggest ever.
Some of Sodeto’s residents, mostly farmers and unemployed construction workers, won millions. The least fortunate came away with a minimum of $130,000.
The lottery, El Gordo (the Fat One) first established in 1812, is a huge event in Spain. Many people take the morning off to watch the televised coverage of the numbers being drawn from a gilded spinning cage. This year there were 1,800 first-prize-winning tickets with the same number, 58268, each paying $520,000. As the tickets cost $26 each, they are often broken down into $6.50 pieces.
What are the winners going to do with the money? Read more…..

“Euro Crash! The Musical” #tradeshow-booth-of-life
Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on January 30, 2012 – 8:48 pm -You might not think that the crash of the euro would make good musical comedy but David Shirreff, a former correspondent for The Economist magazine with a taste for Gilbert & Sullivan wrote a musical fairy tale that is currently touring London, Frankfurt and Berlin.
“EuroCrash! The Musical” transposes the single-currency story to a deep dark forest. Mark and Gilda can’t find their way out. They are lured into the gingerbread Euroland house, where Papa Kohl and Madame Mitterrand run a school of fiscal discipline.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer Norman Lamont sings in the shower, “Our currency’s gone down the drain.” The bad guys in the black cowboy hats are the credit-rating companies. (“I’m Standard, he’s Poor’s/ For a dollar we’re yours.”) Read more……

Tony the Tubby Tiger! #tradeshow-booth-of-life
Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on January 30, 2012 – 5:38 pm -
Tony, who turns 62 this year, has been given a makeover by artist Ron English to show the consequences of too much sugary cereal in the morning.
Tony isn’t the first cereal to earn English’s wrath. Lucky Charms was spun into “Yucky Children Charmer,” complete with a rather obese leprechaun. Emblazoned a Trix box with the tagline “Excellent Source of Childhood Diabetes!” Sugar Smacks? That one spoke for itself. And Frosted Flakes, with its 110 calories and 11 grams of sugar in every 30-gram (3/4 cup) serving, became “Sugar Frosted Fat” (though the cereal doesn’t actually contain any fat, according to Kellogg’s nutrition facts. The boxes were promptly removed. But now it appears the obese tiger has leapt off the box and will be reincarnated.

Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on January 26, 2012 – 4:25 pm -An Hungarian woman emailed New York attorney, Peter Ronai, that her daughter, Eva and 5-year old granddaughter were missing in the Concordia wreckage off the coast of Italy.
Ronai met the daughter’s alleged boyfriend in Budapest who told him that Eva and her daughter were on the ill-fated ship and were missing. The two were not on the passenger list but the boyfriend said they were stowaways. The next day the boyfriend called to change his story.
He told Ronai that the girl was not missing after all. Ronai spoke to the little girl who said that she had seen her “mommy” the day before.
Then the “missing mom” showed up and changed her story. She was no longer dead – she was simply injured when she jumped from the ship. But she showed no sign of pain.

When captured by pirates, lie!
Written by Tradeshow Booth Guy on January 25, 2012 – 4:38 pm -After being hijacked for six weeks, Iranian fishermen were very happy to see the American destroyer USS Kidd pull alongside their captured vessel in the Gulf of Oman Thursday afternoon but, several times before their joy had turned to despair because their Somali captors understood English and French and forced the Iranians to tell would-be rescuers that there were no pirates on board.
This time was different. One of the U.S. sailors spoke Urdu – a language the Iranian fishermen understood but the Somali pirates did not.
The Urdu-speaking American sailor told the frightened Iranian fishermen to put their weapons down. The pirates asked the Iranians what the American said. One of the hostages answered without a pause: “They said they are about to blow this ship up.”
The pirates panicked and surrendered. The Iranian hostages were saved without a shot being fired.
